CHAPTER FOUR

“Want to go outside and play in the snow with me?”

Noel looked up in surprise. She hadn’t seen Gage at all since they’d arrived yesterday and she was beginning to wonder if she should just leave.

“I thought you’d forgotten about me.”

She hated sounding like a petulant child but after what they’d shared at the cabin, she thought she might have actually found someone who wanted her for herself and not…

“That could never happen.” Gage sat down on the edge of the bed facing her. Taking the paperback from her unresisting hands, he leaned down and nuzzled his face into the side of her neck. Her head fell to the side as he pushed her hair out of the way and sucked on the skin revealed by her shirt. His tongue followed the path of his lips, leaving a wet trail that caused shivers to run down her spin as the cold air whispered across it. Raising his head, he stared down at her. “Can I kiss you?”

Well, shit, how was she supposed to stay mad when a sexy-as-hell werewolf shifter had a look in his eyes that said he’d like to devour her? Especially when her body reacted to his presence with such ferocity. Her nipples puckered and a tingling heat spread through her, pooling in her lower body in throbbing expectancy.

“I guess.”

With a grin at her sassy response, Gage’s lips captured Noel’s. Immediately the grin turned to a growl as his wolf began to howl. He drank from her like a thirsty man too long denied water. Her soft lips parted beneath his and the little hitch of breath she gave at the invasion of his tongue sent his body into overdrive. Knowing that she wanted him as much as he ached for her was like a drug in his system. His hands slid down her sides to grasp the hem of her sweater. How easily it would be to remove her clothing and…

“Gage, have you seen my…” His mother stopped in the doorway, a sheepish expression on her elegant face. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude. Your uncle said you were up here.”

“It’s okay, mother.” Gage reluctantly let go of Noel and stood. “What’s wrong?”

“I just...” she laughed embarrassedly. “It’s silly really, but I can’t find the pearl earrings your father gave me for my birthday last year. I was going to wear them tomorrow when the delegates from the Ice Pack arrive.”

Gage loved his mother and knew she hadn’t imparted the news intentionally, but he wished she could have kept that bit of information to herself. Noel’s quickly indrawn breath had his heart racing for a totally different reason than only moments before. She was pissed. He didn’t have to see her face to know it. He could sense her anger.

“I’ll help you look for them later, okay?” As gently as possible, he led his mother to the door.

“Okay. Thank you, son.” She cast a smile over her shoulder. “I’ll see you at dinner, Noel.
